Perth parents going to extremes for their kids’ schooling

You may notice that we almost always highlight the school zoning in the marketing for properties we list for sale. There’s good reason for this.

Many parents will go to great lengths to live in a suburb or even a particular section of a suburb to be in the school zone of their choice.

A recent article in PerthNow highlighted how some Perth parents are exploiting loopholes in the system so their kids can attend one of WA’s most popular state high schools.

Some of the methods parents are reportedly attempting are:

  • Buying and leaving vacant homes in their desired catchment area.
  • Producing fraudulent documents, such as using a grandparent’s address on the enrolment form.
  • Stipulating bills and utilities be sent to rental properties which are then used as false evidence of address.

Some are even going so far as to move into a rental property within the high school zone of choice and leasing out the family home while their children attend high school.

We have a number of very popular and high performing state schools in and around the City of Melville, including Applecross & Rossmoyne Senior High Schools, and often get requests from buyers looking to purchase a home within the zone for one of both of these schools.

If you have a property to sell within a popular state school precinct like Applecross or Rossmoyne High, let us know, as we have registered buyers on our books right now keen to get a foot in the door in time for the new school year.
