With another festive season over and most people heading back to work, parents are beginning to gear the kids up in readiness for the start of the 2017 school year. For many this means starting high school.
As property specialists we have observed over the many years that we have worked with property owners in the City of Melville region that our local area is blessed with an unusually high number of excellent educational facilities – both public and private. So sought after are some of the schools in our local area that many people will go out of their way to move to our area just to be within the zone for their public school of choice or within easy reach of some of the most highly ranked private schools in the state.
Many people plan well ahead, which is actually smart thinking when you realise just how popular certain schools are. These schools consistently rank highly in terms of how well their students perform, academically, in sport and socially. Last week an article published in the Weekend West caught our eye. The article, titled, ‘A new way of ranking’ listed the top 50 Western Australian high schools based on the median Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) for year 12 students in 2016.
The highest ranking public high schools in our local area were:
- Rossmoyne Senior High, which came in at number 15/50, and
- Applecross Senior High, which came in at number 24/50.
Local private schools that made the list were:
- Penrhos College (3/50)
- Santa Maria College (5/50)
- Corpus Christi College (19/50)
- All Saints’ College (26/50)
- Aquinas College (37/50)
- Wesley College (49/50)
Many of these private schools have dedicated buses, which take children to and from school from Garden City, making the commute safe and easy.
All schools listed also had a high percentage of students to achieve the WACE (98% and over).
